What does Dog-friendly mean at The White Buck?
Q & A with Tom Manager at The White Buck in Burley
- How has being ‘dog friendly’ changed over the past few years in the hospitality trade?
A huge amount! For dog-lovers, like us, it adds so much to the guests overall experience. They know that dogs are extremely welcome from the off, which is comforting to start with, and know that there will be designated areas for dogs to be with their owners at all times, whether it’s for a drink, or a quick snack, or a sit-down meal in the restaurant. Many owners love to have their companions with them at all times, and therefore makes it a big point in where they will want to go and book. They know that their pooches will be well-looked after and spoilt-rotten too. We have so much to offer dogs which include; a welcome pack & treat in rooms, a doggie-shower for the mucky pups after their fun-filled forest walks, water bowls & treats scattered throughout the inside and gardens, blankets, and even a designated doggie-menu which includes a dog-beer and ice cream too! For the ones who like their picture taken too, we even have a ‘Wall of fame’, where we love to get as many pictures of the pooches who are staying/visiting us and popping them proudly on the wall of fame!
- Why do you think that’s important?
As pooches mean the world to their owners! It will have a huge impact on where they want and choose to stay in the end..
Owners love to be with their companions as much as possible, and if they’re able to, then they will! If owners have the choice of bringing their pooches with them, or having to leave with a dog-sitter or elsewhere, along with cost involved too, then choosing somewhere who welcome dogs with open arms is a great alternative!
It makes the whole process of choosing where to go much easier, then when you add in all the added extras like what we do, the visit, for both owners and their pooches work together and make it a memorable experience!
- What has the White Buck invested in or added to its offering?
We have always been very dog-friendly, but over the past few years, we have stepped it up even more! We built an outside doggie-shower a couple of years back, and invested in dog stations around the site. When the pampered pooches are staying with us overnight, they also receive a package which includes a dog bowl and treats, a towel, dog-shampoo, poo-bags and a tennis ball too! We also host a monthly dog-meet/walk on the first Saturday of the month, where pooches and their local owners, along with those visiting and staying with us, are welcome to join, mingle and have fun!
