For those of you heading to Dogstival next month, keep your eyes peeled for the special goodie bags we’ll be handing out to lucky dog owners from award-winning pet food company, Burns Pet Nutrition.

Burns, which specialises in simple high-quality pet food, made up of all-natural ingredients, has very kindly donated goodie bags containing its popular pet food and treats, which we’ll be giving out to Have a Go Winners and The Dog Show Category Winners.

If you don’t already know about Burns Pet Nutrition, the company was founded in 1993 by Veterinary Surgeon, John Burns, who is passionate about helping pets to lead healthy, happy lives from the inside out.

Over the years Burns has won a multitude of awards, including recently being voted Which? Magazine’s best dog food brand.

While working as a vet, John Burns would commonly see health problems such as itchy skin, ear issues and digestive upset. Back then, antibiotics were seen to be the answer, but John felt that in many cases, using them was merely treating the symptoms, rather than curing the root cause. In his experience, the problems would often return as soon as the course of drugs was finished.

John was convinced that many of these common ailments could not only be treated, but prevented, through good and balanced nutrition. Determined to help more pets, John set about creating his own natural, healthy pet food modelled on a homecooked diet. Thereafter Burns Pet Nutrition was born.

Burns’ focus has always been to produce premium natural pet food, made with a handful of ingredients sourced locally from its farm, with absolutely NO nasties. The company was the first UK business to bring chemical-free pet food to the market, setting the industry standard for others to follow.

Since its early days, Burns, which is based in the west Wales rural county of Carmarthenshire, has grown to become a multi-million-pound business with over 140 employees and thousands of happy healthy customers.

Its range of products are stocked by 6,000 independent stockists across the UK as well as exported internationally, as far and wide as Portugal and Hong Kong.

And while the brand has come a long way from the days of John Burns driving around with makeshift bags of pet food in the back of his car, it remains a proud Welsh, family business, with John still very much at the helm – despite regular buy-out approaches from major corporations.

From its products to its ethics, Burns is all about putting the health and wellbeing of pets first. 25% of Burns’ profits go to charitable and good causes, and the company donates food to over 40 rescue centres around the UK.

It also has a dedicated team of nutritionists on hand via its free helpline and web chat to provide tips and advice to dog owners.

What a weekend!

What a fantastic weekend! Dogstival was a fantastic event for both dogs, their owners and dog lovers - 10x better than any other dog show. So much to see and do on the grounds, including competitions and fun activities you could try out with your dog on the day! Great stalls around the event, including food & drink, dog toys and other products, dog portraits, useful dog information e.g. vets and insurance and loads more... there were even stands that sold dog pizza and dog popcorn! Easily accessible location - with no traffic and great parking - which is always great for an event. In the current times, it was brilliantly socially distanced, with visitors, staff around the show and in the stalls all being careful and adhering to social distancing and other safety measures. Can't wait for next year's Dogstival!
