Pets As Therapy

Pets As Therapy (PAT) is a National Charity founded in 1983 by Lesley Scott-Ordish. PAT believe that no one should be without the companionship of animals whatever their circumstances. Pets As Therapy connect temperament assessed dogs and cats and their volunteer owners with children and adults in establishments such as schools, care homes, hospitals, hospices and prisons. The volunteer and their pet provide supporting reading services or welfare visits to children and adults who enjoy or are comforted by the presence of a dog or cat.
Pets As Therapy have over 5,700 registered volunteers throughout the UK.
Volunteers give as much time as they can to their visiting, there is no minimum! Visiting can take place during the working week daytime, early-evening and indeed weekends and should always be appropriate to both the volunteer and the establishment they will visit.
Support Dogs

Support Dogs is a registered national charity dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for people with various medical conditions. We provide, train and support specialist assistance dogs to achieve this.
At Support Dogs, we are dedicated to improving life for the people who most need us by training and providing life-changing support dogs. From keeping children calm and safe, to alerting their owners prior to an oncoming epileptic seizure, from raising the alarm in emergencies to helping open doors and get dressed in the morning, our support dogs transform the lives of their families.
Our specially trained support dogs transform the lives of their families. We run three programmes: autism assistance for children, disability assistance for adults and seizure alert programme for people with epilepsy, we are the only organisation in the UK that trains dogs to do this specialist work,
Over 4500 people across the UK asked for our support in 2019. We provide all our services entirely free of charge to all our beneficiaries and as we receive no government funding we must raise over £21,000 to train one support dog and £2,000 each year to support this life-changing partnership.
Everything we do as a charity is underpinned by our values and dedication to improve not only people’s lives but the lives of dogs. We feel there are many dogs that are without loving homes, but have huge potential to become support dogs. We are champions for dogs who need a second chance. We source many dogs from rescue centres, council pounds or our pet dogs that sadly their current owners are no longer able to look after. In fact one in four of our support dogs join us in training from this background. As a charity, we do not shy away from dogs that may be classed as difficult and therefore left without a home, as we know from experience that given the correct training, a good home and care these dogs can become fantastic assistance dogs.
Dog’s Trust

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity. We care for around 15,000 lost and abandoned dogs each year through our network of 20 Rehoming Centres. By sponsoring one of these dogs you can help Dogs Trust give them all the love, care and cuddles they deserve.
Medical Detection Dogs

Can you imagine if a dog could detect an illness well before we had any idea there was a problem and reduce the need for intrusive, unpleasant and expensive diagnostic tests?
Well for over 10 years, Medical Detection Dogs has been training dogs to do just that; to save lives using their amazing sense of smell. It does this with Medical Alert Assistance Dogs and Bio Detection Dogs, both of which can be trained to detect even the tiniest trace of the smell caused by a medical condition. Bio Detection Dogs are trained to detect diseases like cancers, Parkinson’s, malaria and bacterial infections. Medical Alert Assistance Dogs support people with complex health conditions like diabetes, PoTS and severe allergies when they are in danger of having a potentially life-threatening medical event, so they can take the necessary action and prevent hospital admission.
The charity is already making a huge difference to many by training dogs to not only save lives but also restore the confidence and independence that many of its clients lose when they become ill. And the list of diseases the world-leading Bio Detection research focuses on is growing all the time. Medical Detection Dogs relies solely on the public’s generosity and goodwill. Please help it continue its life-changing work. Your support will save lives.
